How many times have you heard the story of someone signing up to an expensive gym, going every day for a week, and then never setting foot in there again? Meanwhile the membership (which is always SO hard to get out of) is draining their bank account, and somehow they keep forgetting to cancel it?

Making fitness fun is great, but making fitness fun without spending money is even better. Believe it or not, there is a way to get the best of both worlds. To have access to unique exercise equipment, without having to sign up anywhere.

There is an abundance of outdoor gym equipment at parks all around Perth, and we want to help you find one near you so you can get started today.

Many local government areas have a list on their website of all the parks with outdoor gym equipment, including:

Select local governments even provide workouts for their specific park equipment, including the City of Armadale and the City of Belmont. The City of Mandurah offers seasonal classes for those aged 60+ called Move Your Body which are free guided sessions using outdoor fitness equipment at local parks.

You can also search ‘outdoor gym’ in Google Maps for an easy to navigate map of free outdoor gyms near you. There is also a list of parks with exercise equipment all over Western Australia on the Localista website.

Stay safe while exercising outdoors by:

  • Warming up and stretching before/after your session
  • Reading the instructions on each piece of equipment before use
  • Being SunSmart – wear a wide brim or bucket hat, sunnies and protective clothing when the UV is 3 or above (check the UV in your area with the SunSmart app)
  • Wearing appropriate and comfortable footwear and clothing
  • Staying hydrated by drinking enough water
  • Checking in with a health professional before starting if you have any health concerns

And if you’re keen to get moving but the weather isn’t looking too great for an outdoor workout, check out our Workout Builder for your own personalised at home video workout.
