Have you ever been to an event where there are endless choices of beer, wine and cocktails but the alcohol-free options are limited to fizzy water and soft drink? Me too. All the time.
It’s time we recognised that non-drinkers and people who are trying to cut down on alcohol deserve flavour too! And when you think about the clear harms caused by drinking alcohol, it’s important to support people to drink less by giving them tasty and fun alternatives.
We’ve been busy in the LiveLighter kitchen over the last few months creating and trialling a load of different drink ideas. The drinks not only had to taste good, they also needed to fit within our nutrition guidelines. Here are a few of our favourites.
Poolside Percy
This refreshing summer sensation is the perfect accompaniment to your tropical vacation or, let’s be honest at the moment, your porchside staycation. For a frostier finish on those extra hot days use frozen strawberries and garnish with a sprig of mint and a slice of cooling cucumber.
Sweetpea
Formerly known as ‘The Elvis’, this creamy peanut butter and banana combination can be prepared as is or layered with and without cocoa for an added fancy touch. And your guests will be amazed to hear that this decadent-tasting drink contains the secret hero ingredient chickpeas!
Ruby zinger
Who would have thought that this strange combination of flavours could taste so good? Zingy, earthy, and sweet; we love the uniqueness of this drink. Canned beetroot gives the ruby zinger its eponymous deep red hue.
Peach and rosemary iced tea
This Instagram worthy drink will appeal to the sophisticated adult palate. The fruity sweetness of the peach mellows out the bold flavour of rosemary. Enjoy with Sunday roast, at a dinner party or during a celebratory picnic in the park.
Pineapple sparkler
The pineapple sparkler combines the fiery heat of ginger with the bright sweetness of pineapple. If you’re looking for a delicious alcohol alternative to serve at your next event, this simple to prepare drink will provide the wow factor you’re after.
Ski slopes
Get merry with the ultimate Christmas in July party drink. This fruity and spicy hug-in-a mug will warm up your hands and put a rosy glow in your cheeks. The perfect winter beverage to transform your lounge room into a cosy cabin by the ski fields.
