Habits Campaign
Stakeholder
toolkit

The first wave of the LiveLighter Habits campaign launched in Western Australia on Sunday 6 April. The second wave launched on Sunday 2 November and will run until 1 February 2026.
About Habits
Habits is a healthy eating campaign that was made here in WA. It aims to inform WA adults about the impact of unhealthy food habits and how they could lead to poor health outcomes, while also offering practical solutions for healthy eating. In doing so, the campaign aims to motivate these healthy eating behaviours and increase WA adults’ self-efficacy to take up these healthy habits in their daily routines.
Habits wave two will run on TV, catch up TV, audio (radio and streaming), YouTube, social media (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok), in gyms, and in shopping centres.
Campaign background
With over 12 years of healthy lifestyle campaigns on air, WA adults have seen a range of LiveLighter messaging. Annual surveys of West Australians have shown an increase in knowledge and intentions around healthy eating behaviour however the effect on behaviour change has been more modest. Our research shows that WA adults need ideas, motivation and an increase in confidence to help commit to these healthy behaviours. This is where Habits comes in. Focus group testing conducted with our target audience has highlighted common problem behaviours and achievable solutions to swap them out with. These have been brought to life in this campaign, which we aimed to make relatable and encouraging for our target audience.
LiveLighter is funded by the WA Department of Health and delivered by Cancer Council WA.
Target audience
The primary audience for the Habits campaign is West Australian adults aged 25-64, with secondary audiences including people living in regional/remote areas and disadvantaged or low-SES areas of WA, and people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent.
Campaign aims
- Inform WA adults of the impact of unhealthy food habits and how they could lead to poor health outcomes.
- Motivate WA adults to switch unhealthy food habits to healthier ones.
- Educate people about convenient and nutritious meal options and healthy habits.
- Increase WA adults’ self-efficacy to take up healthy habits in their daily routines.
Key messages
- Small changes to our eating habits can lower our risk of developing diseases like fatty liver disease, cancer and heart disease.
- There are many small ways we can incorporate healthier habits into our daily routines.
- Having a shopping list helps us to stay focused on what we want to buy and can stop us from buying highly advertised junk foods.
- Satisfy an after-dinner sweet craving with some Greek yoghurt, frozen fruit and nuts, or get fancy with a sprinkling of granola.
- Got tasty snacks and leftovers in the fridge? No need to cook up a meal – it’s already there! Try a snack-plate dinner; some left-overs, a bit of hummus, crackers and cut-up vegetables. Easy, nutritious and quicker than getting take-away.
- Don't spend $15 on lunch when your desk drawer could be your very own pantry. Some packet rice, tinned tuna and tinned beans form the base, then add whatever fresh vegies you have left in the fridge and you’ve got a quick and nutritious lunch.
We are encouraging all stakeholders to support the launch of Habits wave two by sharing our social media content through their channels.
